16 Days of Gender Activism
Sixteen Days of activism against Gender Based Violence is a period that runs from 25th November to 10th December and is commemorated every year in many parts of the World Zambia inclusive. This period is used as an organised strategy by Governments, Non-Governmental Organisations, churches, individuals and other groups to call for the elimination of all forms of Violence against Women.
The 25th November is the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women”, and within the Sixteen Days period we highlight two other significant dates:
- December 1, which is the “world aids day”; and
- December 10, the “world human rights day”.
This year, Gender Division will be launching a National Campaign entitled “Are you Safe…?’’ At work, at home, at school?” This Campaign resonates well with this year’s theme as it focuses on highlighting violence against women and girls that occurs at home, work places and in schools. It also encourages all Zambians to unite and look out for their families, friends and colleagues who may be experiencing Gender Based Violence by ensuring that they seek qualified services which is available throughout Zambia.
